Drama club, thought to be dead, has been brought back to Clackamas Community College.

The club is a place to bring people with a love for the arts together to further their knowledge, get more involved in the theatre department and find opportunities to further their career after their time here at CCC. 

During meetings, Roxie McCorkle, the current club president, makes announcements about the club. Afterwards, members use the remaining time of the meeting to talk and play games. 

McCorkle grew up being a part of different theatre companies. She transferred to Oregon City High School in her junior year and became an active member of the theatre program there. After high school, she came here to CCC to continue her learning.

“It’s a really beautiful department here,” said McCorkle, who was cast in CCC’s production of “Airness” and “She Kills Monsters.”

Last year when McCorkle came to CCC, she and a few students saw the club had been inactive and decided to start it back up. 

“It’s a small but mighty team,” said McCorkle. 

“There’s a lot of really good opportunities that people bring in, especially like audition opportunities and film opportunities.” she said.

A fellow member of the club, Candy Dotson, started her theatre journey in middle school when she was a part of her school’s production of “Beauty and the Beast.”

“I had a bunch of friends in it, I decided to [join] and I ended up playing Cogsworth and I’ve been doing theatre ever since,” said Dotson. 

Through the club, members learn about the plays and musicals.

“Drama club definitely drives up the amount of people who audition for things just because it’s really the main place to get information.” Dotson said. “We get a lot of information about local theatre and the theatre here.”

The drama club meets weekly on Tuesdays at noon in Niemeyer 141.
