The end of the college year is just around the corner for students at Clackamas Community College — and with a new school year, comes a new Associated Student Government President.

Results for the ASG election concluded May 1. The candidates included Breanna Davis, Jorge Apodaca and Kaytlen Thomas.

Breanna Davis — a student who has previously worked in the ASG clubs department — won the ASG student elections after getting 66 out of 154 votes.

In an interview after her win, Davis shared her enthusiasm for the position.

“It’s probably going to be the highlight of my year. It’s probably going to be the highlight of next year,” said Davis. “And so incredibly grateful for everyone and everything that, like, happened to get me in this position.”

The ASG president at CCC holds a wide range of responsibilities, including running weekly meetings, representing students at college board meetings and helping coordinate student events. Davis decided she wanted to fill this position with a main focus to represent students in meaningful ways.

“It’s really just a lot of like representing the student body on larger levels, trying to get the student voice involved,” Davis said. “Really just being that representative. I’m going to go to all the school board meetings, so if there’s ever an event with the school board, I would show up.”

Looking ahead, Davis said she is willing to take any and all student feedback for what students think should change when the next school year begins.

“I am going to be a sponge for the next four months. Just anything that anyone tells me on how to do things better, I will be taking in,” said Davis.

As for longer term goals, Davis has a big picture in mind for the future of clubs.

“There is a part of me that wants to have more club engagement on a larger scale,” Davis said. “I would love it if we could get our own soccer field of some kind on campus, because we don’t have anything like that right now.”

Davis explained that if the students at CCC express what direction they want the college to take, there’s a good chance that it will go there. She plans to bring student voices not only to school board meetings, but to DC as well — so that student voices can be heard on a national level.

“If we got enough student voices together, the college would realize that this is something that people are passionate about,” said Davis. “That would be a very large undertaking, I think. But I think if the students really want it, you know, it could be done.”

Davis expressed her gratitude to anyone who supports her as she steps into the ASG presidency.

“I hope everyone realizes how excited I am for this, and I hope I will make you proud,” Davis said.
