PDX home to the biggest clothing swap in the Northwest
By Shaylyn Struna
Thousands of people attend, bringing a bag of clothes to trade and leaving with a bag of clothes new-to-them.
It’s the perfect time to spring clean and clear your closet out. Sunday, May 15, Alley 33 Productions will be hosting the clothing swap. This will take place at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland. Tickets are available at www.etix.com. Advanced tickets are $8. If you don͛t buy a ticket, you will be charged a $9 door fee.
This will be the event͛s sixth year. Cassie Ridgeway is the creator of the event. She works with a number of people for this production, but many are volunteers. The leftover clothing will be donated to various charities in Portland. The proceeds will be towards the Alley 33 Fashion Show presenting in July.
The event is open to anyone; however, it is recommended to leave young children at home. There will be a bar providing alcoholic drinks while you shop. There are clothing sections for men, women and plus size. The event also accepts accessories and shoes. If you don’t have a bag of clothes to bring, you can buy an empty bag for $5 and fill it up.
Don’t be worried about getting used clothing. There are guidelines and regulations in place to make sure the clothing is absolutely acceptable. No dirty, damaged or bad smelling clothes will be accepted.
