CCC track and field takes third

Both Clackamas Community College men’s and women’s track and field teams placed third at the NWAC Championships.

After a second place finish at the Southern Region Championships, the CCC track and field team looked to finish just as strong at the NWAC Championships in Spokane, Wash. on May 18 and 19.

CCC athletes showed their presence in the track events, finishing in third place or better in five of the 24 events. Those solid finishes were highlighted by Jackson Baker’s two victories in the men’s 3000 meter steeplechase and the men’s 5000 meter run. The great teamwork of CCC was apparent as well with the men taking second in the 4×100 meter relay and the women taking third in that same event.

With a decent performance in the track events CCC really needed to flex their muscles in the field and that’s certainly what they did. CCC finished with an astounding 10 third place or better finishes in 17 events. Five of those 10 finishers stood atop the podium; both Tiffany Richardson and Zack Supple won the pole vault, Matthew Lloyd for the men’s hammer throw and both Tianna Ybarra and Easton Christensen for the javelin throw. CCC was highly competitive in just about every field event; some of those first place finishers were being contested by teammates and the gaps were incredibly tight.

The tournament was an overall success for CCC, capping off a great season for the Cougars. seven out of 42 events were won by a member of the CCC team, along with Jackson Baker being voted the track athlete of the meet. Congratulations to the CCC track and field team on a fantastic season.
